Thread of Voice

Australia, 1993 (MIFF 1994, Experimental)

Four Melbourne artists and filmmakers known as Arf Arf have made a truly original film based on their work in sound poetry and visual gesticulation using a variety of experimental film techniques, the images intertwining with threads of voice. English sound poetry group Koncrete Kanticle appear performing in London, Arf Arf are seen performing at the other end of the world their baker's dozen of songs, visual and vocal. Not just a document about a series of performance acts, Thread Of Voice is the act itself, from thumb nail sketches, scrap-books and voice scores where the pathway to a 'finished' film is revealed as a recipe to be brought to the table.

The Australian sound poetry group ARF ARF comprises of Marisa Stirpe, Frank Lovece, Michael Buckley and Marcus Bergner. Between 1985 and 2000 they collectively produced and mounted hundreds of performances in both Australia and Europe. The film "Thread of Voice" has been shown widely, including at: The Serpentine Gallery, London; The Pompidou Centre, Paris; Arsenal Kino, Berlin; Millennium, New York; Museums of Modern Art in Warsaw and Sydney. Presently the group are completing an anecdotal/ experimental novella based on all their previous performances and is due to be published late 2012.
